This is a book by a guy known for his work with dogs, but this is so much more.

First of all, he uses the different attitudes toward dogs―expressed by himself and a woman he falls for―as symbolic for acceptance, appreciation and love. You will be turning the pages to find out how this works, not only for Katz, but for you. And it does.

We walk through different stages of their relationship. Too few books are written about middle age, second marriages. We are caught up in Hollywood, romanticized love stories―they may never really exist this way, that’s why we escape to them. But there is something about truth, as difficult to confront  as it is, and Katz (and his dogs) help us with it as much as anyone or anything can.

This is a must read. Get it from the library, from Amazon, from a bookstore. More important than reading it…live it.

The account of Frieda saving neighbors from their house burning is one of the most moving things I have ever read.
