Trying to come up with a word or two that describe why I liked this book so much, I have concluded it is a “fluid read.”

There are several sub-plots that build tension in a completely natural way—a missing friend, the take-charge aunt, a single narrator who is attracted to a married police detective, the uncertainty of inheriting a house due to be condemned, another possible heir. Any of these could have taken over. They don’t, but weave together to keep us, not only wondering what will happen, but how.

I thought this would be about the owner of a bookstore-coffee shop who solves a mystery. It is so much more. Not just a mystery, literary art, an over-budgeted movie or TV show, but good reading. Good reading! Whatever happened to that.
