My dog Penny

I love the brutal honesty of this book: “Home Depot stores are way too big and way too intimidating and they make me feel totally inadequate.” “‘How to remove a dead coyote from a driveway without touching it’ is not a fruitful search on Google.”

But this is really about a couple with 30 dogs who are moving from California to Maine― at least every other chapter is, the rest are loving bios of some of the dogs (and this gets a little monotonous for an outsider).

If you love dogs you will be moved by the stories of rescue; but if you don’t love them or even are unsure, this is not the book for you with its portable dog parks, 3 rental RVs, smelly back yards and cast of two- and four-legged characters.

Sometimes I think we should judge a book not by its cover but by what we take away after reading it. With this one, I’d just say stay with the dogs in an RV cover…and hope they’re not moving next door.
